NoHo NYC: The Quiet Stylish Side of Downtown Manhattan
NoHo NYC: The Quiet Stylish Side of Downtown Manhattan
Guía rápida
NoHo is a small neighborhood of just over 125 buildings, but culturally there's plenty going on, and the restaurant and bar scene is excellent.
Its name comes from its location: NOrth of HOuston Street, to distinguish it from SoHo, SOuth of HOuston Street.
Things to Do in NoHo
NoHo is home to a couple of hugely important New York cultural institutions.
The first is the Angelika Film Center & Cafe, at the corner of Houston and Mercer, a movie theater devoted to independent films.
You'll also find the Astor Place Theatre (434 Lafayette Street) here, one of the best known off-Broadway theaters.

The Astor Place Theatre is considered a New York historic landmark, since it occupies the 4 buildings still standing from Colonnade Row, one of the oldest structures in the city, originally built as residences for the Astor and Vanderbilt families.
If the Vanderbilts ring a bell, it's because they're the same Vanderbilts who built the magnificent Grand Central Station and gave their name to One Vanderbilt, the new Manhattan skyscraper with one of the best observation decks in New York.
The theater has been running since 1965, but in 2001 it was taken over by the Blue Man Group, so if you want to catch one of their shows, this is the place.
Blue Man Group shows mix comedy, music and multimedia. One tip: don't wear anything too fancy, because part of the show tends to «splash» onto the audience. In fact, the front rows are known as the «poncho zone,» and those seats come with a disposable poncho.
