What is Wicked the Musical about?

In this Broadway smash hit, Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, is the star. You'll see she wasn't as wicked as The Wizard of Oz makes her out to be, and that she had a soft spot too ❤️.
The show has picked up several awards, including a Grammy for Best Musical Show Album.
After seeing Wicked, you'll never watch The Wizard of Oz the same way again.
The story behind Wicked
The show is a Broadway adaptation of the novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by American writer Gregory Maguire.
That book was itself inspired by Lyman Frank Baum's children's story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz (1900), which follows Dorothy Gale's adventures in the land of Oz.
Over the years there have been many adaptations of The Wizard of Oz, the most iconic being the 1939 film with Judy Garland as Dorothy.
