Want to see the Fourth of July fireworks in New York? You can start planning now, because this year Macy's show returns to the East River and it will be visible from landmarks like the Brooklyn Bridge and the Seaport District.
It's the 49th edition of the show, with more than 80,000 fireworks launched up to a thousand feet in the air, choreographed to an original soundtrack.
The organizers of the event, the famous Macy's department store, have already announced all the details, and I'll walk you through them below: where to watch the fireworks, what time they start, and which spots are best for seeing the fireworks.
So if you're planning a July trip to NYC, time it around the pyrotechnic show. You'll be part of one of the most anticipated events of the year!
As you can see, catching the fireworks is one of those can't-miss things to do in NYC in July 2025.
Everything you need to know about the 2025 Macy's show
There are other fireworks shows in New York to celebrate Independence Day, but the Macy's fireworks are without a doubt the most traditional and the biggest.

In 2025, Macy's is once again producing the fireworks show on the East River, after staging it on the Hudson River in 2024.
This is the 49th edition and it will feature more than 80,000 pyrotechnic effects, including new shapes like crowned jellyfish, atomic rings and comet fans, all set to an original soundtrack.
The department store is deeply tied to the city's traditions. Did you know Macy's also puts on the famous Thanksgiving Day Parade down Fifth Avenue?
Here are all the details for watching the Fourth of July fireworks in New York from a front-row spot:
What time are the Fourth of July fireworks in NY?
Every year the fireworks go off around 9:25 pm, once it's fully dark. The pyrotechnic show has run about 25 minutes total.
But the Macy's Fourth of July event starts earlier. At 8 pm Eastern, there's a musical show with huge names like the Jonas Brothers and Lenny Kravitz. More on that below.
One thing to know up front: you can't see the musicians live, since it's a televised event broadcast on NBC and Peacock.
Where to watch the Fourth of July fireworks in NY
Did you know the Macy's Fourth of July fireworks are the largest Independence Day show in the United States?
That's right. Don't miss it. It's one of the most anticipated July events in New York for locals and visitors alike.
Below are the official viewing areas for the 2025 show and how to get free tickets to watch the Fourth of July fireworks from the front row.
Best places to watch the fireworks show
As they do every year, the producers set up several official viewing zones, spots with a clean, panoramic view of the light show.
According to the organizers, entry is free and first come, first served until each area reaches capacity. That's why it pays to get there early to claim your spot.
Keep in mind that you can't bring backpacks, large bags, blankets, folding chairs, umbrellas, drones, cigarettes or vapes, electric scooters, alcohol or bulky packages into these viewing areas.
The NYPD will run security checks before you enter the viewing points.
Manhattan viewing areas 2025:

This year you'll be able to watch the show from several official spots in Lower Manhattan, all along the FDR Drive:
- Montgomery Street at Madison Street
- Murry Bergtraum softball field (ADA priority access area for people with limited mobility)
- Broad Street at Water Street
The recommended entry point for the FDR Drive viewing zones is near Pearl Street and Robert F. Wagner Sr. Place.
Brooklyn viewing areas 2025
Parts of Brooklyn Bridge Park will be open for fireworks viewing, but you'll only get in with free tickets issued by the City of New York.
The same goes for the designated areas at Pier 16 and Pier 17 in the Seaport District in Manhattan.
I'll explain below how to get these tickets, which are distributed by the city.
Queens viewing areas 2025
There are no official viewing zones in Queens this year.

That's the list of official viewing spots, all in strategic locations, but you can also catch the show from other points along the East River, on both the Manhattan and Brooklyn sides.
For example, plenty of Manhattan bars, hotels and restaurants throw parties with views of the fireworks, with tickets running from $40 up to $550 at the Empire State Building observation deck.
How to get tickets for the Brooklyn and Seaport District viewing areas
This year, the City of New York is handing out 100,000 free tickets for access to the best places to watch the Fourth of July fireworks: Brooklyn Bridge Park and Pier 16 and Pier 17 in the Seaport District (Manhattan).
Important to know: there are no tickets for sale. If you see offers out there, they're probably private parties at bars or hotels.
🗓 When and how does registration open?
The ticket system works on a “first come, first served” basis, meaning tickets are assigned in the order people register, until they run out.
📅 Start date: Tuesday, July 1 at 8:30 am (New York time)
🌐 Official site: july4thtickets.events.nyc
🎫 How many tickets can you request?
- Up to 4 tickets per person for Brooklyn Bridge Park
- Up to 2 tickets per person for Manhattan (Pier 16 and 17)
Tickets are free and require no payment of any kind. Each person can pick only one of the two options.
📲 Early access by text message

- The first 2,500 people to send the text will get 4 free tickets for Brooklyn Bridge Park
🧾 Key tips
- Get online the second the site opens, because tickets go fast.
- Tickets must be in the name of the person using them. You may be asked for ID at the entrance.
- No transfers or resales allowed.
Places we do NOT recommend for watching the fireworks in NYC
According to the event organizers, there are areas where visibility is very limited, so they don't recommend heading there:
- Sections of the FDR Drive in Midtown Manhattan
- Battery Park
- East River Park
- Hunter's Point South Waterfront Park
- Roosevelt Island
- Governors Island
- Gantry Plaza State Park in Queens
How do you get to the official viewing areas?
The easiest way is the subway: the MTA runs extra trains before and after the show.
Several bus lines will be detoured too. Skip the car, since there will be street closures and parking restrictions.
Concert and confirmed 2025 performers
Before the fireworks, Macy's puts on a concert with big-name stars performing live, broadcast on TV.
This year's lineup includes Ava Max (the voice behind «Sweet but Psycho«), the Jonas Brothers, actress and singer Keke Palmer, rocker Eric Church, Trisha Yearwood and the iconic Lenny Kravitz.
The host will be Ariana DeBose, the Oscar-winning actress from West Side Story.
Where to watch the July 4th show if you're not in New York
If you won't be in the city or you'd rather avoid the crowds, you can watch on TV. Macy's airs the full show on NBC and Peacock starting at 8 pm Eastern.
Independence Day events in NYC
Beyond the main show, the Fourth of July in New York is packed with celebrations.

At Coney Island, as every year, Nathan's famous hot dog eating contest takes place. This July 4th classic happens at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues, kicking off with the women's competition at 10:45 am and the men's at noon. Admission is free, first come, first served.
There will also be special parties at the Edge observation deck, with tickets starting at $400, and at the South Street Seaport Museum, with tickets between $75 and $95.
The other observation decks in Manhattan's skyscrapers (Empire State, One World Observatory and Summit One Vanderbilt) usually host special events, though they haven't announced them yet.
July 4th cruises in NYC
If you want something different, several cruises offer dinner with views of the fireworks. A few options include:
- Dinner with fireworks (like the Eternity Dinner Cruise)
- Parties with a DJ and open bar
- Yachts with direct views of the Brooklyn Bridge
Prices vary by experience, but in every case you need to book ahead. Don't say I didn't warn you!
Fireworks at Coney Island
At Coney Island you can also catch another annual Fourth of July fireworks show in New York.
Just get to the Coney Island boardwalk before 10 pm, when the 15-minute display begins.

The fireworks were launched from the pier at West 19th Street, but the show looked great from anywhere along the Coney Island boardwalk.
If your trip doesn't line up with July 4th and you want to see a classic American fireworks show, every Friday in summer starting at 9:30 pm the Luna Park amusement park puts on a fireworks display you can watch from the Coney Island boardwalk.
Get there earlier to enjoy the rides in my favorite Brooklyn neighborhood 😉
Planning for 2026: the 250th anniversary of Independence
Here's a heads-up well in advance: 2026 marks 250 years since the Declaration of Independence of the United States! And a historic celebration in New York is already being planned.
Along with the annual fireworks show, the celebration will include a parade of ships from more than 30 countries. Among them, the Queen Mary 2, the longest, tallest, widest and heaviest non-military ship built in the last 20 years.
The ships will sail up the Hudson River and around Lower Manhattan, and will be visible from various points along the New York waterfront.
Nothing is confirmed yet, but there are several piers where the ships will dock and can be visited. Among them Brooklyn Bridge Park, Pier 86 (home of the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum) and Battery Park in Lower Manhattan.
Besides the nautical event, there will be an air show, and the fireworks display over the Hudson River promises to be the most lavish seen in many years.
So as you can see, July 2026 will be a great time to travel and be part of American history in a New York full of parties and events. It will be an even more spectacular occasion than the 2025 Macy's fireworks.
