Citi Field: Home of the New York Mets
Citi Field: Home of the New York Mets
Guía rápida
Citi Field is the modern home of the New York Mets, the famous Major League Baseball team. It sits right next to Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens.
This new New York Mets stadium opened in 2009 to replace the old Shea Stadium, which had simply outgrown its usefulness. Today it is one of the attractions in Queens that sports fans will love.
Below I'll explain how to get to Citi Field and where to buy tickets to a New York Mets game at good prices, for example through this ticket search tool.
Buying tickets to Mets games
The Major League Baseball season generally runs from April through October.
If you enjoy professional baseball and you're traveling to New York from April onward, you'll get the chance to see one of the most famous teams in the league play live (you can also visit Yankee Stadium or buy tickets to Yankees games).
It's a good idea to buy tickets in advance for games at the New York Mets stadium, because the closer the date gets, the higher the prices climb.
Guided tours of the Mets stadium

On weekends there are guided tours of the facility that include the field, the clubhouse, the dugout, the press room, a few private suites and the Mets Hall of Fame.
Citi Field is part of the route on the affordable Contrasts of New York tour, so that's an easy, quick way to get a look at it.
The history of Citi Field
It was built next to the old ballpark, Shea Stadium, in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, a park with several attractions such as the Queens Museum, home to a huge scale model of New York City, and the towers that appeared in the movie Men in Black.

Plenty of people still miss the old stadium, which was torn down to build parking lots for Citi Field, because its historic value was remarkable. To give you one example, Shea Stadium hosted the famous Beatles concert in 1965.
As a tribute to that musical legacy, Paul McCartney played the first concert held at the new stadium in July 2009.
When you head out to Citi Field, I recommend walking around Flushing a bit, said to be home to the real Chinatown of New York. You'll eat authentic Asian food on the cheap!

Citi Field capacity
The capacity of the New York Mets stadium is enormous: more than 40,000 seats. It's also a very modern facility with cutting-edge technology that's worth seeing.
That's why Citi Field is such a popular venue for big concerts in New York, on top of the many baseball games played there every year.
