How to Get to IKEA in New York
How to Get to IKEA in New York
Guía rápida
If you love shopping at this wonderful Swedish store full of good design, ideas and beautiful things to take home, here's how to get to the IKEA in New York.
By the way, if you live in South America, did you know IKEA opened its first South American stores in Chile? That's right, it's IKEA Chile 🇨🇱.
But back to New York, where IKEA sits in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Red Hook. The best part is that the fastest and most fun way to get there is by ferry: the IKEA Summer Ferry Service. It's the only IKEA in the world you can reach by boat 🚤 😀.

IKEA Ferry (IKEA Summer Ferry Service)
The IKEA Summer Ferry Service is a ferry service run by New York Waterway. It only operates during summer in NYC (until recently it ran daily 😔) and only Friday through Monday.

You can hop on the ferry to IKEA in Brooklyn from 2 terminals in Manhattan:
⛴️ Pier 11 on Wall Street in southern Manhattan (the closest subway station is Wall St, lines 2 and 3).
⛴️ Pier 79 at Hudson River Park in Midtown West Manhattan, around W 39th Street between Hudson Yards and Hell's Kitchen.
The IKEA Ferry ride along the East River takes 20 to 30 minutes and docks at IKEA's private pier in Red Hook, which leaves you just steps from the store entrance.
Beyond saving time, the ferry ride gives you panoramic views of Lower Manhattan, and as you approach Brooklyn you'll see old warehouses, cranes and docks that hint at the shipping past of these waterfront neighborhoods.

IKEA ferry schedule and prices in New York
The ferry to IKEA runs between 10:30 am and 4:30 pm (departures every hour and a half).
On Saturdays and Sundays the ride is free. On Mondays and Fridays each trip costs US$5.
You can check the full schedule on the ferry's website. Worth doing so you don't waste time, since boats leave only every hour and a half.
Visiting IKEA is always a pleasure, and a very cheap one as you can see. It's also a chance to visit Red Hook, one of Brooklyn's lesser known neighborhoods.
Before you head back, I recommend walking the piers and soaking up the sea breeze and those gorgeous New York skies. Look closely and you'll see the huge One World Trade Center keeping you company across the East River.

How to get to IKEA in New York on a free bus
Another way to reach IKEA is to transfer to a free bus (the IKEA free shuttle) that leaves from the exits of two nearby subway stations:
- Lines F, D, R. 4th Av/9th Station
- Lines 2, 3, 4, 5, R. Court Street/Borough Hall station
This shuttle runs daily from 11 am to 10:10 pm
It's a much longer trip than the ferry from Wall Street, but if you need to get to the store earlier or stay later it's a good option (the ferry has more limited hours).
IKEA by subway and bus
There are no subway stations near IKEA, but you can also get there by transferring to buses, which you can ride with your MetroCard.
