Looking for cheap hotels in Brooklyn is a smart move. More and more travelers have figured out that Brooklyn is the new Manhattan.
The neighborhoods of Brooklyn have plenty to see and plenty to do, especially Williamsburg and DUMBO!
Plus, with the excellent NYC subway you'll easily reach every attraction in Manhattan or anywhere else in New York.

Recommended cheap hotels in Brooklyn
To make the decision easier, here's a list of 5 central, affordable hotels in Brooklyn. In every one of them the value for money is far better than in Manhattan, as you'll see:
1. Hotel Pointe Plaza
2 Franklin Ave, Williamsburg, Brooklyn
Subway: G line, Flushing Av. station
From $75 per person

The Pointe Plaza Hotel is an excellent choice for the price-to-quality ratio.
It's a modern, no-frills hotel right in Williamsburg, one of the neighborhoods I recommend in my guide on where to stay in New York.
The hotel sits in South Williamsburg, home to New York's Orthodox Jewish community. You'll see Hasidic Jews like the ones in the series Unorthodox. Very New York, this.
The Pointe Plaza is a ten-minute walk from the G line, which will get you to Midtown Manhattan in 30 minutes tops.
There's free wi-fi and a generous breakfast. You can book it here.
2. POD Brooklyn
247 Metropolitan Avenue, Brooklyn
Subway: L line, Bedford Av. station
From $75 per person

Trendy, almost too well located in the heart of Williamsburg and steps from the subway. The facilities are new and spotless.
Guests rave about how friendly the staff is and how warm the common areas feel, which makes it easy to meet other travelers.
The rooms are tiny but perfectly fine for resting after pounding the New York pavement all day.
Good deals in low season if you book ahead.
Check prices and book without paying anything up front (you can cancel free of charge right up to close to your travel date).
3. New York Moore Hostel
179 Moore Street, Brooklyn
Subway: L line, Morgan Ave station / J and M lines, Flushing Ave station.
Private room from $90 and $50 in a shared room

If you're out to save money but still want a good vibe, I recommend the Moore Hostel. It occupies a huge industrial loft. It has 90% positive guest reviews, so they're clearly doing something right.
This hostel has private rooms, so you'll get the same comfort as a hotel for less (beds in shared rooms are cheaper still).
Best of all, it's also in Williamsburg, the most fun neighborhood in Brooklyn, 20 minutes from Manhattan by subway.
You can book online without paying anything (you pay when you arrive at the hostel) and cancel up to 2 days before at no charge.
4. Hotel Le Bleu
370 4th Avenue, Park Slope
Subway: F and G lines, 4 Ave-9 St station
Rooms from $150

The Hotel Le Bleu is in the beautiful neighborhood of Park Slope in Brooklyn, very close to Prospect Park, the so-called Central Park of Brooklyn (in fact it was designed by the same people).
The rooms are big, which isn't all that common in New York, and guests say the beds are enormous and very comfortable too. Pay a little more and you can get city views.
You'll be 40 minutes from Times Square by subway, just so you have a sense of the distance and can factor it in. But if your plans revolve around the attractions in Brooklyn, it's a terrific base.
The other plus is that it has family rooms, which also isn't common in New York (you can also check out these other family hotels in New York).
You can book it online here without paying in advance, you pay when you get to the hotel.
5. Aloft New York Brooklyn
216 Duffield Street, Brooklyn
Subway: 2 and 3 lines, Hoyt St. station
Double rooms from $200

If you can stretch your budget, there's this modern hotel strategically located in Downtown Brooklyn and very close to Manhattan thanks to the magic of the New York subway.
It's extremely comfortable, with a terrace, free internet and everything you'd expect from a hotel in this category. It's a fairly chic hotel without the excess of Manhattan hotels at the same level, so the price is very good. You can check it out and book online at this link.
Is up to you, Brooklyn, Brooklyn!
