What to see in New York in 2 days? It's a question we get from a lot of travelers who only have a couple of days in the city.
Since there's so much to see in NYC, if it's your first trip I'd suggest focusing on the attractions in Manhattan, which is where most of the New York spots you've seen in the movies are.
So here's a 2-day New York itinerary focused on Manhattan. Enjoy it, take your time, and don't stress, because I'm sure you'll be back. It's impossible to see a city as endless as New York in one trip.
Day 1: New York's landmark buildings
The first day we'll focus on Manhattan's most distinctive buildings, a mix of art deco, modern, and beaux arts styles.
Click the links for each attraction and you'll find details, hours, how to get there, and prices:

Throughout Newyorkando I'll keep telling you that New York is a mix of ethnicities and nations, so what better way to start your day than visiting the United Nations headquarters?
It's a magnificent building, and beyond its political significance, you'll get to see a masterpiece of modern architecture, designed collaboratively by renowned architects, among them Brazil's Oscar Niemeyer.
From there you can walk to other classic Midtown Manhattan attractions, like the Chrysler Building, one of New Yorkers' favorite skyscrapers, and get a close look at this Art Deco gem. Sadly only from the outside, since there are no guided tours.

At that point you'll be very close to Grand Central Terminal, another of New York's most recognizable attractions, both for the beauty of the building and for its appearances in hundreds of movies and shows.
If you plan your time well, it's worth going up to the Summit observation deck, the most modern observatory in Manhattan and the one everyone's talking about. It's inside One Vanderbilt, a new skyscraper built right next to Grand Central.

Midtown Manhattan is home to another famous Beaux Arts building: the New York Public Library.

You have to take a look at its magnificent reading rooms and grab a photo with the lions on the front steps, a classic New York image (remember the opening scene of Ghostbusters?).
Right next to the library is one of Manhattan's most famous parks, Bryant Park, where there's always something going on, so take a stroll before heading to another New York icon, the Empire State Building.
A great way to close out this first day of seeing New York in 2 days is watching night fall over Manhattan from the Empire State observatory.

The Empire State is always packed with tourists, so it's key to buy your observation deck ticket online and skip the box office line (you'll still have to go through security and wait for the elevators).
The good news is the observatory stays open until midnight, so you'll have plenty of time to enjoy New York in High Definition 😜.
Day 2: Museums, Central Park, and Fifth Avenue
For this second day of the 2-day New York itinerary, I'm suggesting a mix of culture and cosmopolitan life. Remember that each link has the full details on the attractions:

Start by picking one of New York's major museums and enjoy it all morning. I'm only saying one because you won't have time for more (the MoMA or the Met are both great choices!).
If you're not in a museum mood, you can spend the morning visiting the Statue of Liberty. In that case, buy your tickets online for the earliest slot of the day so you gain precious time for the rest of your sightseeing.

After lunch I'd recommend exploring Central Park. Manhattan's main park is enormous, so assume you won't cover it all in one visit.
These guides will help you decide which parts of Central Park you want to see on this first trip:
🌉 A list of the most famous Central Park bridges
🌳 A guide to the green spaces of Central Park
⛲ Discover the most important statues in Central Park
💧 Get to know the lakes and ponds of Central Park
🦁 Did you know there's a zoo in Central Park?
Afterward, head toward Fifth Avenue to see this emblematic New York street.
On Fifth Avenue you can visit St. Patrick's Cathedral and Rockefeller Center.

If you're doing well on time, Rockefeller Center is home to another of New York's top observation decks: Top of the Rock.
You can wrap up the day window shopping at the Fifth Avenue stores, like Tiffany, Cartier, Prada, Bergdorf Goodman, or Saks (and you can stop by to say hi to Donald Trump at Trump Tower, ha).
If you still have energy, a very New York way to end the day is catching a Broadway show and then walking out into the lights of Times Square 🌆.

What to do with extra days in New York?
If you've already seen several of the attractions I recommended, or you have more days to spare, how about a day trip to other cities near New York?

If you have an extra day, you could take a round trip to Washington DC, travel to Philadelphia, Boston, or even out to Niagara Falls!
